This is an ideal Beginners ride, and also makes for a great Recovery ride for Intermediate or Advanced riders after a long week in the saddle. Miramar Lake is a water supply reservoir located in the Scripps Ranch community of San Diego, California. Cyclists, walkers, and roller-bladers regularly take advantage of the five-mile paved trail that wraps around the lake's shoreline, plus it's a popular weekend recreation area for boating, fishing and picnicking. During this ride, you'll ride three laps around the lake; with a reverse in direction after the second lap for a little variety. Covering a pleasant 14.9 miles the ride takes 53 minutes if done at a moderate pace.
This ride is over mainly flat terrain and is ideal for aerobic base conditioning. If using a heart rate monitor aim to stay in Zones 2 and 3. If you want an intense tempo ride change your resistance mapping so you're working out in Zones 3 and 4. See the Ride Fit Training Guide relating to the concepts of resistance mapping. Miramar Lake Loops has text-based instructions. The overlaid digital dashboard shows resistance, target cadence, perceived effort level and has a duration bar at the bottom allowing you to determine how far you are through the ride.
